• Welcome to my blog!

I love photography! Pretty cliché I know. There is just so much to learn and explore. So many things to try. But the main reason I love photography is this "Photography is about savoring life at 1/100th of a second." - Marc Riboud

I am a portrait and wedding photographer based in Cedar City Utah. I also love landscape photography, but every great landscape I encounter, I can't help but think how much better the shot would be if I stuck a person in it.

October Portraits

October may just be my favorite month. I love fall, the changing colors, the cool weather, it is fantastic. I love earth tones too, so the fall leaves just cry out to be photographed. I couldn’t resist all those leaves on the ground any longer, so I decided to take my boys out for a photoshoot. I take pictures of my boys all the time. So much that it has become rather difficult to get them to pose for me anymore because they are sick of it. However, it had been a while since I did more than a quick photoshoot at home of them, so this was long overdue. We set out with one goal, find a bunch of leaves on the ground. We found the perfect spot.

Isn’t he the cutest one year old ever? I think so, I am biased of course because he is mine.

Our oldest is the hardest to photograph. He doesn’t have much patience for it anymore, but I’ll take what I can get.

And then suddenly the photoshoot turned into this, throwing leaves. I loved it, got some really cool shots of those leaves.

And of course he had way more fun after the leaf throwing started.

And finally one of my favorite shots from the whole thing. I absolutely love that stream of leaves and they are lit so nicely, just pure awesomeness.

I think I will order some large prints of a few of these to go in my office.

Emilie & John – Engagements

These guys are some of the lucky ones that had perfect timing to catch the brilliant aspen trees at their peak. The timing could not have been better. I can’t think of many better backdrops than a backlit aspen tree in its full fall glory.

And then how about a field of black lava rock with aspens in the background. Just awesome.

The background for the next shot was the same scene I posted earlier.

And then we ended the shoot at Cedar Breaks just in time to catch the setting sun.

What an awesome couple and and awesome photoshoot.

Fleeting Fall

The beautiful fall colors up on the mountain come and go very fast. Had an engagement session in brilliant fall leaves up on Cedar mountain one weekend and the next weekend, the leaves were almost entirely gone. Those people that acted fast got some awesome fall portraits. Here is a sample landscape shot I grabbed during an engagement shoot.

The leaves have yet to turn completely down in the valley, so there is still a chance to get some fall color shots, but you just can’t beat the colors of those aspen trees. The oranges, yellows, and reds are just amazing. The photo was taken at Duck Creek reservoir on September 26, 2009. A week later, all those leaves were on the ground.
