So the moon doesn’t actually appear in any of these photographs. They are simply landscape photographs that are lit by the moon. More specifically, they were lit by a full moon. They were taken between 10:30 and 11:00 pm on a very cold November night. It was 20° F. I had to hike a ways away from the road to get the shots I wanted. It was much darker than these photos make it appear. In fact, this is how the scene registered on my iPhone:
Yes, that is supposed to be completely black. It was pretty peaceful out there in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but a bunch of coyotes yelping in the distance to keep me company.
I’ve posted both color and black and white versions. I can’t quite decided which ones I like best. Would love your thoughts.

I think we (me Troy Rein) like the black and white ones because you can see more stars.

I can’t decide. I love them all. I think I would like the black and white one printed for my bedroom–of the first one. But I really like the wrinkled mountain in color because of the contrast of muted and bright colors.

Great mtn range and perfect time to shoot the sky. Nice work.
