Woke up at 3:30am this morning to watch the Leonid meteor shower. The Leonid meteor shower occurs every year in mid November. In the past it has produced some of the best meteor showers in history. The best time to see a meteor shower is when the sky is at its darkest. That is tricky to achieve right now because the moon is almost full and the time between the moonset and the sunrise is only 3 hours. The East sky is the best place to look for them. My friend John and I decided to go to Kolob Canyon to photograph them. Seemed like a good place. It is away from city lights and offers an interesting horizon when facing East. As an added bonus, there are no regular flight paths in the scene.
We had a great time. It is kind of a crap shoot. You never know when or where the meteors will appear, so you just have to keep taking pictures and hope you catch something. See if you can pick out the meteors in these pictures. Only one of them has no meteors. One of them has five. The rest have at least one (and there are no airplane trails in these shots either).

This was a fun adventure. Anytime you want to go out and shoot the stars it would be my pleasure to go with you. Great shots too. Your new camera and lens were put to good use that night.
